In reply to ron.jacobs. I get why you'd be skeptical, but the International Maritime Organization and shipping unions are pretty credible sources. The Gulf is a major chokepoint for global oil, so even a few dozen ships stranded could affect thousands of crew members. The situation might not be headline splashy but it's definitely serious for those involved.

I don’t think these numbers are accurate. How can 20,000 seafarers just be stranded without big news coverage? Seems like scare tactics to push up oil prices. Most likely, only a few ships are affected, not tens of thousands.
